Secrets Of A Magazine Hoarder

Don't ask me why, don't ask me how but there is something that makes me  feel sick to my stomach about throwing a magazine away. I say throw I mean recycle, because you know I like to do my bit for the environment and all that jazz. As I stare at my pile height stacks of magazine's around the house, I get a certain joy that I can't really explain. I'm 5,5 and yes my magazines are the same height as me, more if you put them all together.  I'm aware they are just paper, and are not in fact some magical fashion tool to use around the house. I'm also aware that nearly 70% of them, show me things I know I can no longer go out and purchase. I guess I just love looking back at old styles, times gone by and trends that were once the only things to be seen in. I love editorial pieces, and can spend an hour with a few cups of tea dreaming I owned every item in the glossy spread before me.

My boyfriend Barry however does not share this love, he sees them as space gobbling, dust gathering old tat. That he would gladly take pleasure in binning. So sadly I've developed a strange habit of hiding them, anywhere and everywhere possible. If I see a gap where one can be left without my little boys ripping it to shreds, and where I know Barry won't spy it. I'll be like a crazy women and filling the gap with as many as I can possible jam in.

I do have the odd clearing of ones that have been found, and abused my the boys. When it's coated in yogurt it's time to let go. A few months ago I managed to clear two recycling sacks of them, as Barry found a massive pile that I had been stashing with some of the boys things. I think I'm buying them less now anyway, I tend to only buy the odd one.  I'll never really know why I love to keep them, but I know I can't be the only one. Right? .....To me they are my source of inspiration, and while I adore the Internet it doesn't bet the felling of opening a fresh copy of the latest glossy and flicking through with a cuppa.

Do you keep magazines? If so where are you hiding yours? Or do you prefer to keep your place free of the clutter? How many is too many? Would love to know your thoughts, also I'd love to know if this is just a crazy habit only I have. Also the magazine pictured has nothing to do with me writing this post, it's just one of my many collections of magazines.

  3. Yes! But I have had to limit myself to home magazines, to refer to for decorating ideas, and Christmas magazines, for similar, and food magazines, for recipes. I had to say goodbye to any fashion ones, they just took up too much room. Le sob. x

  9. I used to be like this with ELLE. I eventually chucked them in the recycling though, as I realised I never really opened them up again to have a peek! I totally get it though, although I'm a bit of a geek and like looking at the layout of pages, not just the content! xo

  11. I used to be a hoarder of magazines, but had a MASSIVE clear out a few years ago and I've never let it build up since. In fact, I used to buy all the monthlies and when I totalled up much they were costing me I stopped buying them altogether, bar one supscription. Then, when the next issue popped through my door, the other went in the recycling. I've even cancelled that subscription now - I much prefer blogs to magazines. I can understand your addiction though - the spreads magazines do look just so lovely, you can pour over them for ages! Xo

  13. I have a subscription to Total Film and there are piles of them in my flat. And working in a media agency means there's always free mags hanging around that I can't help but give a home to. From expensive ones like Wonderland to cheap ones like Real People. I'll take them all!

  15. I used to hoard magazines, mainly from the mid 90's until about 2006 which was when I moved out of home, I got rid of them all and I regret it deeply. I wish I still had the old magazines to read old articles, look at old fashions and even old adverts. I suppose I don't really have the room but I wish I would have saved the odd one as I love nostalgia.

  18. Haha I know what you mean, I've been saving mine like forever but when I moved to another apartment two years ago I decide to keep only the ones I really like. So now I have five magazines, all issues since 2005/2006, so still enough ;) I'm keeping them in Ikea Lack cabinets.

  20. Hi when i studied fashion journalism at uni i was a massive magazine hoarder, i would spend a fortune on magazine on a monthly basis. I didn't just buy magazine from newsagent, i brought loads of niche titles and overseas publication. I also been to the office of Company, however i was only allows into the reception as i was working for a PR company at the time, what does it look like - like a normal office. In a couple week time i'm going to a Company conference which i'm excited about.
