I think an instant way to feel more 40's is red lipstick with a rounded top on the upper lip and a winged eye, without fail anyone can wear this look and feel a tad more glam than they did before. To truly nail it, just arch your brow line, I'm lucky mine are natural arched but I always go over them with black liner just to make it that bit more dramatic. I learned how to line my eyes just by doing it every day, and looking at photos from books I have on 1940's stars. I think everyone has a odd eye liner day where they don't always match, I use a pen eye liner by collection 2000 which is amazing and I love Rimmel lipstick (they have some great reds). Finish with red nails, and if you what a really 40's nail don't forget your half moon at the base.
Women in the 40's had to start doing the men's jobs as they were all at war (WW2), but if anything their look was sexier than ever before which puts women of today to shame really. When I think about how little they had, but still the lengths they went to look good it makes me want to make more effort. My nan told me how women would draw a line on the back of each others legs if they had no stockings, and how they would pinch their cheeks for blush.
I use to wear my hair in 40's styles when I was a lot younger, same do take some time, but actual one of the popular styles was a side parting and big waves brushed back. Victory rolls are a classic and one of my faves, their are so many You Tube videos on how to's now as well so getting the look is easy. Here is one of the best for hair and makeup by the lovely Pixiwoo, but their are heaps of different how to videos on there.

Modern day inspiration can be found from the gorgeous Dita, she has a book which is great it has some tips on beauty and go's through all the different scarlet's (her inspiration). I love it for studying her hair style and makeup, as I find it easier to copy a look from a picture. So I hope you enjoy this post, and I hope it gives you some inspiration I would like to make it into regular feature.
